West Limestone completed the 2016 season with a 10-2 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 4A region eight, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. West Limestone reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Cherokee County by a score of 39-38. The Wildcats won as many games as in any season since 1988. Since 2010, West Limestone has gone a combined 47-31. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 4A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, West Limestone has managed to compile a record of 111-157. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 4A and 271st in the AHSAA. The Wildcats are led by head coach Jordan Cantrell who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 21-13 over the past three seasons at West Limestone. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Cantrell. Coach Cantrell's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 21-13 (61.8%). The West Limestone Wildcats will play in Class 4A region eight during the 2017 season. The Wildcats enter the 2017 season riding a 6 game regular season winning streak. The Wildcats should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. The defense returns Senior linebacker Jackson Gowan who got in on 93 tackles last season. The defense also returns Senior linebacker Jesse Rose who registered 76 tackles last season. Junior Nick Martindale returns after rushing for 628 yards on 90 carries and scoring 10 touchdowns. The Wildcats open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Tanner on Friday, August 25 at Rip Swanner Stadium. Last year the Tanner Rattlers finished with an overall record of 9-4 and in first place in Class 2A region seven. The Rattlers lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 2A playoffs to Lanett by a score of 48-42. West Limestone and Tanner have met a total of 61 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 26-33-2 record against the Rattlers. They last met in 2016 with West Limestone winning by a score of 15-14. West Limestone returns 4A All-State Senior linebacker Brayden Craig.
